Documents needed to get a voter identification card

How do I register to vote in India?
To apply for an Indian voter ID card, simply follow the instructions below:

  • Access the Election Commission’s main website by logging in.
  • Choose your home state from the drop-down menu. Once you’ve done that, you’ll be sent to the Chief Electoral Officer page for your particular state.
  • Register with your account. Click the “Register” button if you are a new user.
  • To make an account, you will need to provide some basic information, such as your first and last name, email address, phone number, and gender if you are a new user.
  • Your login information will be emailed to your registered email ID when you submit these data and click “Continue”.
  • You will be prompted to update your password after logging in using the credentials you were given for security reasons.
  • After logging in, select “Form 6” or “Application for enrolling names in the assembly constituency voters list” from the list of available options.
  • Correctly complete the form, add a passport-size colour photo, and select “Submit”.
  • After completing these processes, you must go to the closest voter ID facilitation centre with confirmation of your identification and residence to complete the formalities.

A Form 6 and an application for a voter registration card may also be collected by going straight to a voter’s ID facilitation centre with accompanying documentation.
